MANUFATTU IN SITU #7 “on Nature and Society” – International Residence Program Foligno, Italy

The work had been created after an exploration phase of the territory (Village of Cancelli-Foligno) during which I was
immediately struck by some handwritten posters against the archaeological excavations carried out in Cancelli’s cemetery.
Through these posters the community complained about the excavations, which had taken place with no respect of the cemetery,
a sacred place for people and their relatives. They were written in such a passion, which left a strong impression
in me. So I decided to act in order to compensate the community for this damage: like a hug, thin and delicate,
I circumscribed the perimeter of the cemetery by a red thread and then I left a white handkerchief with the words
“And here, I stopped” accompanied by a nonreligious prayer, a short poem written by me.
“Alla solitudine di nostra madre, alla prosaicità del pane quotidiano, alla sacralità della sofferenza, ai fiori finti perché sono sempre belli, alla corda che ti lascia
entrare, allo sguardo colmo di chi è pesante, all’intervallo di una vita circoscritto tra due date, al bacio ancora umido che ti resta sulle dita, al grido dell’uomo, a
queste case che ho abitato, alla Comunanza di Cancelli stretta in questo abbraccio, il mio.”
